Fertility Foods Episode 1: Granola

Featured on today’s edition of Fertility Foods, we are going to be talking about Granola!

• Did you know that done correctly, your granola can become a fertility powerhouse?

Let’s talk about some basics!

• Coconut oil: while not appropriate for everyone, this can help to decrease inflammation in the body. Inflammation is a huge struggle for most women going through fertility treatment(s). Coconut oil also contains fatty acids; fatty acids are essential building blocks within the body. They have even been shown to protect and repair sex cell DNA against toxins.

• Cranberries: not just for UTIs! cranberries are a rich source of vitamin C that can provide benefits to both egg and sperm health. They have also been shown to help improve production of cervical mucus in women (so important!).

• Pepitas: these are loaded with zinc! Zinc is a trace mineral that not only helps our body to fight off germs, but has also been shown to help the body build proteins and DNA (such as in the case of a developing baby) and also helps a woman’s body to properly utilize estrogen and progesterone (again, so important as these are vital hormones!).

• Sunflower Seeds: these little nuggets contain zinc, folic acid, and selenium (all beneficial for fertility!). Not only do they also contain protein, but they are also a great source of vitamin E. Vitamin E has been shown to positively support nerve cells, red blood cells, liver function, and the immune system.
